Tooth Decay From Baby Bottles

By putting a bottle in their babies mouth, mothers find it easier to put them to sleep. Constant exposure to drinks apart from water that have a high sugar content, will overtime affect your child’s teeth by causing immense damage. Bacteria tends to thrive under those conditions. They begin to produce dangerous acids that will cause damage to your child’s enamel and the bacteria will continue to multiply.

Some of the harmful drinks that can cause damage to the enamel are:

  • Breast Milk
  • Baby Formula
  • Sugary drinks
  • Juices from a fruit
  • Milk
  • Drinks that contain sweeteners

This form of tooth decay is dangerous as it tends to happen at a fast pace. You will have to be extra careful and think about what drink you are going to put in the bottle for your baby to help prevent any further damage. After every time your child drinks something other than water, proceed to grab a gauze pad or any wash cloth and wipe their gums and teeth to remove plaque from their mouth instantaneously. An easy way to do this is have your child laying on the floor or even your lap while you clean their mouth.

If you want your child to fall asleep with a bottle, you can do it so with water. If your child cannot sleep with the bottle full of water, try diluting water into their previous drink for a set time frame.

You can easily prevent any sort of tooth decay for your child by being cautious of what goes into your child’s bottle.

Testimonials

★★★★★ In my opinion, Teddy Bear Dental is one of the best Dentist Practices in San Juan Capistrano. Dr. Teddy Kim and his staff are the best. They treat you like family and have a genuine interest in your wellbeing. I used to hate going to the dentist because of feeling like I was just another patient. All of which, went away when I scheduled my first appointment with Dr. Kim.
