Childrens Dental Care | San Juan Capistrano Dentist

Proper caring methods for your child’s oral health is vital to their general health. Begin great oral care habits early in your child’s life to set a foundation that they can easily follow and maintain for the rest of their life.

Brushing Your Teeth

Daily brushing is a vital section for proper oral care. When it is performed properly, you can effectively remove plaque hidden on the chewing surface of your teeth. When your child’s first tooth comes out, you can start a gentle brushing routine. Once they reach the age where they can prevent swallowing toothpaste, you should allow them to begin using a fluoride toothpaste with about a pea-sized amount of it. Around 4-7 years old, children are able to brush their own teeth while under the supervision of parents. Your job would be to ensure they are properly brushing their teeth and doing so twice a day.

How to Brush Your Teeth Correctly:

  • First begin with grasping your toothbrush at a forty five degree angle.
  • In a circular motion, start brushing your gumline gently.
  • Afterwards, brush the outer, inner, and chewing surfaces of your teeth, respectively.
  • Lastly finish up with brushing your tongue to get rid of bad breath and to remove extra bacteria.

Flossing Your Teeth

The small gaps between your teeth are required to be clean as well and dental floss can reach it unlike your brush. Preventing tooth decay and any plaque build-up by regularly flossing as it is pertinent to healthy oral care.

Flossing Your Teeth Properly:

  • Cut about 18 inches of floss around your middle fingers of both hands.
  • Lightly grasp it between your forefinger and thumb for each hand.
  • Gently use a back and forth motion, while moving the floss in between your teeth.
  • Make a “C-shape” with your floss and scrape the side of your teeth.
  • Make sure you get between all teeth, including your molars and premolars.

★★★★★ In my opinion, Teddy Bear Dental is one of the best Dentist Practices in San Juan Capistrano. Dr. Teddy Kim and his staff are the best. They treat you like family and have a genuine interest in your wellbeing. I used to hate going to the dentist because of feeling like I was just another patient. All of which, went away when I scheduled my first appointment with Dr. Kim.

Dr. Kim was very professional and caring and listened to my concerns that were not taken into account at my previous doctor. The office was very clean and orderly and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and you can tell they take not only dental hygiene seriously but cleanliness in general as a big priority.
